About the Agency
The Parents Center is a non-profit agency that has been providing culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, integrated mental health services to youth and families for over 30 years. We provide counseling/therapy services to our most vulnerable families throughout Santa Cruz County, utilizing a wrap-around model in multiple settings, including families, homes, schools, community and our offices in both north and south county.
Job Requirements and Duties
Parents Center is currently hiring a Mental Health Therapist (bilingual preferred) to provide individual child and family therapy with vulnerable families throughout Santa Cruz County. The ideal candidate has the ability to work with children, adolescents and families; is able to assess behavioral and emotional strengths; and make informed recommendations for treatment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's level education in Psychology, Social Work, or related field
- Ability to learn to maintain Medi-Cal (EPSDT) documentation including assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in an electronic health record system within program standards / deadlines
- Ability to conduct evaluations, assessments and counseling services of referred children, adolescents and their families in school, home or community-based settings
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service trainings and workshops
- A high level of flexibility, reliability, organization, writing and computer skills, including writing professional case notes
- Adherence to all confidentiality requirements
- Working vehicle for travel for sessions in the community
- Knowledge of:
- Developmental stages and needs of children ages 3-18
- Symptoms and behaviors of mental health
- Principles and methods of interviewing, counseling, crisis intervention and assessing psychosocial behaviors
- Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) Criteria
- Strength based and culturally appropriate services
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with
- Billing EPSDT/Medi-Cal, ideally using the AVATAR Electronic Health Records System
- Maintaining Medi-Cal (EPSDT) documentation including assessments, treatment plans and progress notes in an electronic health record system within program standards / deadlines
- Conducting evaluations, assessments and counseling services of referred children, adolescents and their families in school, home or community-based settings.
- Bilingual in Spanish & English
