Hourly Rate is $27.49. This position is located at the Wallops Island Flight Facility Operations and Maintenance Service, NASA Wallops, Wallops Island, VA.
Responsibilities:
Primary duty is ensuring your personal safety, the safety of co-workers and customers. Must be able to follow all safety rules & procedures. Be willing to work both indoors and outdoors in inclement weather. Performs repairs in accordance with the various plumbing, heating, pipefitting, and other associated codes and known practices, and inform his immediate supervisor of any problems, and discrepancies. Will install new systems and equipment, such as pumps, heat exchangers, coils, water coolers, air handling equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s data with isolating valves and connections for proper operation.

Utility Mechanic will perform a variety of duties.
- Must have a basic understanding of mechanical and electrical components
- Must be experienced in the use of all types of voltmeters ammeters, ohmmeters, CO2 meters, O2 meters, meggers, etc.
- Plan layout routing, placement and elevation, required to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair steam, water sewage, condensate, heat, air, and fuel systems.
- Coordinates work with that of other trades and to meet other requirements.
- Individual measures, cuts, bends, threads, installs, and makes repairs to piping, hangers and foot, cam, gate, globe, angle, check, relief, temperature, modulating, pilot-operated, pneumatic and solenoid valves.
- Operates, maintains, and repairs computerized/electronic boiler, water, and wastewater system controls.
- Maintains, modifies, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, validates, certifies, performs maintenance, tests and operates commercial building automation controls.
- Maintain all related electrical circuitry. Knowledgeable in elementary electricity single and three phase systems, uses of capacitors, and relays in heat, hot water, and sewage systems
- Conduct equipment troubleshooting and restoration utilizing trade specific tools and test equipment.
- Test and adjusts all components to manufacturer specifications.
- Performs PM (Preventive Maintenance), PT&I (Predictive Testing & Inspection), and CM (Corrective Maintenance) including TC (Trouble Calls)
- Responds to emergency calls and/or after regular hours to perform emergency and assigned work
- Able to collect historical data such as charts, trends, and graphs and apply this data to perform corrective measures.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
U.S. citizenship required. Must have completed an apprenticeship program or have five years of experience as a Utility Mechanic or any equivalent combination of experience and training in a designated field, craft, or trade that can be documented by a certificate or diploma from a reputable organization, school, or trade program. Able to read blueprints, drawings, codes, and manufacture’s O&M manuals. Will safely use both hand and power tools associated with trade. Utility Mechanics will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Jacobs provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.
Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to coordinate your actions with those of other workers.

Work Environment:Test environment – May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, and industrial facilities. (90%)
Travel between various facilities and during test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loud noise and
potentially hazardous equipment operation and environment (10%). All safety rules and regulations must always be
followed without exception.
Physical Requirements:
Visual and physical (hands on) contact of mechanical related systems, hardware, articles (50%). Must be able to walk,
stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb various heights, crawl in confined spaces, and lift up to 35
lbs. (20%) and with assistance 50 lbs., body mobility (60%) and ability (where applicable) to distinguish colors.

Safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) (80%)
Attendance:
