SUMMARY:

Performs unskilled and semi-skilled manual work in the construction and maintenance of electric facilities; performs work in a safe manner according to construction standards; assists in other duties as directed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned

• Loads, unloads and carries materials, supplies and equipment
• Places barricades and warning lights around work area; keeps work area orderly.
• Digs holes for poles and anchors by hand.
• Pours and finishes concrete.
• Operates air hammer, air tamper, small trenching machines and various other types of small equipment; operates department vehicles as assigned
• Assists in setting and removing poles and anchors; assists in applying pole treatment; assists in the construction and maintenance of wooden, steel and concrete structures.
• Performs work necessary in the construction and maintenance of ducts, conduit transformer vaults and other electric facilities.
• Checks tools/equipment and keeps in order.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or acceptable equivalent (i.e. GED).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to communicate (verbally) in a clear and concise manner with work associates and the general public.

MATHMATICAL SKILLS:

• Accuracy in basic mathematical calculations (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and knowledge and application of units of measure.

REASONING ABILITY:

• Ability to apply principles of logical thinking or scientific thinking in routine and non-routine functions or operations, maintenance and construction of overhead and underground electric utility installations.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

• Valid driver’s license for the State of Mississippi.
