The Opportunity:

Central to Urban’s mission is fostering a truly inclusive community that ensures ongoing relevance to a changing world. The Center on Labor, Human Services, and Population seeks a training and technical assistance (TTA) coordinator to join our expanding child care and early education technical assistance and capacity building practice.

The new team member will support the design and delivery of tailored technical assistance on projects aimed to expand and support evidence building to inform child care and early education policy and operational decisions. This includes the management of communities of practice for public agency and research partnerships to provide them the opportunity and support to discuss their research ideas, methods, experiences, and outcomes; learn new strategies; and problem-solve together.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in engaging directly with external partners and a dedicated team at Urban to inform policy, practice, and evidence-building in the child care and early education policy field.

Urban offers a hybrid work environment and this position offers the opportunity to work remotely (outside of the Washington, DC metropolitan area), but there may be occasional in-person meeting requirements that could require travel.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work with a variety of external stakeholders, including researchers, public agency staff, and federal agency partners to identify and develop evidence-based approaches that meet the needs and goals of partners
  • Contribute to training and technical assistance planning in the short- and long-term: help to set team goals, develop work plans, track workflows, monitor deadlines, and support the achievement of milestones on specific TTA activities such as meetings, communities of practice, and one-on-one supports
  • Contribute to the facilitation of virtual and in-person webinars, communities of practice, and peer learning that are designed to build capacity and foster collaboration and information exchange
  • Assist in the development of meeting agendas and materials and help facilitate effective internal and external meetings through diligent pre-meeting planning and the engagement of relevant stakeholders
  • Suggest collaboration technology tools to support remote TTA activities and assist in customizing for particular activities
  • Collaborate with Urban’s internal subject matter experts and external partners to ensure TTA leverages and helps translate data, evidence, and best practices
  • Contribute to the development of products and resources that distill and translate TTA lessons learned to the field and transfer knowledge among community of practice members, including drafting sections of reports, briefs, blogs, and other publications
  • Contribute to the support of researchers and public agency staff in communicating their research, translating their findings, and connecting with relevant audiences to share insights and best practices with the field
  • Support team responses to business development opportunities, particularly opportunities with technical assistance components
  • Contribute to project management, including monitoring and managing budgets, processing invoices, and other tasks to ensure responsible stewardship of project resources

Who You Are:

We are seeking a candidate who values diversity and inclusion; thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic office environment; and possesses strong facilitation, writing, oral communication, problem-solving, time management, and relationship management skills.

The successful applicant will have:

  • At least two to three years of experience either working in a TTA role, supporting the management of communities of practice, or working within a policy or social service organization in which responsibilities included substantial engagement with stakeholders, such as government entities, nonprofit organizations, employers and/or industry groups to build their capacity
  • Experience supporting the design and delivery of training and technical assistance through different approaches and strong problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated interest in early childhood research
  • Ability to understand moderately complex social science research content and/or evaluation methods in order to effectively support collaborations between clients/partners and Urban subject matter experts
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to support relationships with multiple partners at high levels, as well as experience supporting complex projects where client needs and work products may quickly evolve
  • Strong organizational ability, and a knack for managing competing priorities and multiple processes
  • Ability to adapt to changes in work assignments, deadlines, and project management styles; willingness to adjust team roles and responsibilities to achieve results
  • Ability to support the design and execution of hybrid events (virtual and in-person) and willingness to travel for direct engagement with external partners as conditions permit
  • It’s anticipated that the successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education, public policy, social work, public health, nonprofit management, economic policy, a related field, or they will have demonstrated experience in a role with transferrable skills, such as organizational development, consulting, or conflict resolution. We welcome candidates with a variety of educational and professional backgrounds who meet the above desired qualifications.

What You’ll Experience:

No matter your role with Urban, you will contribute to meaningful work that makes a difference for people and communities across the country. And whether you call the Washington, DC area or elsewhere home, you can expect to be part of a welcoming and hybrid workplace. We are committed to cultivating a community and working in a manner defined by collaboration, equity, inclusivity, independence, and integrity.
