Staff Accountant

FLSA Status: Non - Exempt

SUMMARY

The Accountant is primarily responsible for processing credit card charges, assisting with accounts payable and payroll as needed and a variety of special projects in RENEW’s Accounting Department and will report directly to the Controller.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage all aspects of the processing and reconciliation of Company Credit Cards and Expense Reports
  • Process expense reports with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Work with operations to assist in verifying employees are following company policy
  • Reconciliation of the credit card statement to the general ledger
  • Prepare regular spend reporting for management review
  • Assist with the processing and reconciliation of Payroll
  • Review weekly timesheets
  • Process expense reimbursements to employees
  • Prepare payroll journal entries
  • Provide backup support as needed to other payroll personnel
  • Act as the backup for the Accounts Payable process
  • Accurately enter invoices for payment to vendors
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure purchasing policies are followed
  • Evaluate invoices for proper treatment of Sales and Use tax requirements
  • Review vendor statements to ensure all invoices were entered for payment
  • Assist with other reconciliations as required as part of month-end processes
  • Maintain current and develop new SOP’s [Standard Operating Procedures] as needed
  • Assist with year-end audit duties as assigned
  • Special projects as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES

To perform the essential functions of this position successfully, an individual should be able to demonstrate and provide the following:

  • Associates degree in Accounting or business-related field required.
  • Two (2) or more years of functional experience in General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and/or Accounts Receivable.
  • Payroll experience is required, union payroll experience is a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge in Word, Excel, and Outlook and the ability and willingness to learn new software applications.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills, communication skills, the ability to multi-task, and most importantly, the ability to work well in a team.
  • Demonstrated openness to change, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Self-starter with a drive for continuous improvement of the business operations.
  • Express willingness to step out of the box to assist other teams to meet and overcome challenges for the company.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position is largely self-directed and requires understanding of company policy, procedures, and values. Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements in all work environments. This position operates in an office environment with a hybrid option available after initial training period is complete.

Specific physical requirements include:

  • Sitting for approximately 90% of the time while working on a personal computer.
  • Occasionally lifting weights of fifty (50) pounds or less.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
