JOB TITLE: Staff Development Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Nursing
REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing
GENERAL PURPOSE: Direct in-service educational programs and the hiring process in accordance with current federal, state and local standards governing the facility, and as may be assigned by the Director of Nursing, to maintain quality resident care.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
ADMINISTRATIVE Duties: Assist in developing, establishing and maintaining the objectives, policies, procedures and in-service training programs in each department; maintain reports, class attendance records and subject records; and, attend and participate in various department and committee meetings and make reports and recommendations concerning in-service training programs.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT Duties: Assist in orienting newly assigned personnel and promote professional upgrading of all personnel; develop conferences and seminars using inside and outside professional and support agencies as necessary; and, attend, evaluate and participate in inside and outside workshops, seminars, conferences, programs and activities to add to professional growth and to keep abreast of changes and teaching techniques in the healthcare field. SAFETY Duties: Comply with, support and enforce Company policies involving all safety and infection control procedures to include the proper use of mechanical lifts, gait belts and personal protective equipment.
RESIDENTS’ RIGHTS AND POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS Duties: Understand, comply with and promote all rules and regulations regarding residents’ rights; promote positive relationships with residents, visitors, and regulators, to include presenting a professional appearance.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: COMPLIANCE Duties: Must adhere to Company Code of Conduct and Business Ethics policies, including documentation and reporting responsibilities.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT Duties: Attend and participate in educational activities, in service training and staff meetings; assist in orientation and training other staff.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT Duties: Participate in Quality Improvement activities as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES Duties: Other duties as assigned or needed. Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or Without Aid of Mechanical Devices): Walking/mobility, reaching, bending, grasping, pushing and pulling, fine hand coordination; ability to hear and respond to pages; ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures; ability to read and write; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to understand and apply training and in-service education; ability to instruct personnel during training education and staff meetings; ability to communicate with personnel, residents and others; and ability to remain calm in emergencies and when handling multiple tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold an unrestricted RN license in the state where practicing unless the state that state is a compact state. Related experience at a level necessary to accomplish the job. Completion of secondary education or otherwise show ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job. Basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company software. Must maintain regular attendance. Must meet all local health regulations and pass post-employment physical exam, if required. This requirement also includes drug screening, criminal background investigation, OIG Exclusion Database, Abuse/Neglect Registry, Licensure Registry, and reference inquiry(s). Must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
