Palmdale Regional Medical Center serves the region by providing high quality medical services to residents of the Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding communities. Palmdale Regional Medical Center’s new Labor and Delivery unit – The Birth Place – is now open! The 33,000-square-foot unit features 25 private patient rooms, six labor/delivery/recovery suites and two surgical suites. The Rehabilitation Institute, the hospital features 184 licensed acute care beds as well as inpatient and outpatient surgery, an Advanced Primary Stroke Center, cardiac services featuring a STEMI Receiving Center (heart attack) and a 35-bed 24-hour emergency department. Essential Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Medical Director, Director of Respiratory Therapy, and/or Respiratory Managers or Supervisors (and/or designated charge person as indicated), a Neonatal Respiratory Care Specialist is an individual who is professionally skilled in the application of respiratory care services in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Labor & Delivery (L&D), and Emergency Room (ER) settings. Individuals must have the ability to work well with minimum supervision. They will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other ancillary staff to provide specialized care for critically ill Neonatal patients in this facility. They may be responsible for intubation procedures requiring specialized training depending on staffing needs. Also, may act in a temporary capacity as a team leader; and must maintain communication between physicians, nursing, and other departments as part of the health care delivery team. In addition, they will participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Assessment activities and interdisciplinary teams as appropriate. Lastly, they will perform other duties as assigned and may be required to work in Adult care areas when census is low in the NICU; or to meet the department needs for staffing throughout any area of the hospital as needed.



Qualifications


Requirements:
  • Graduate from an American Medical Association (AMA) or Joint Review Committee on Respiratory Therapy Education (JRCRTE) approved Respiratory Therapy program; Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Care [BSRT].
  • Must have a minimum of one year experience in an Acute and Critical care environment; Preferred two years.
  • Completion of a minimum twenty hours of didactic training specific to the care of Neonates.
  • Four weeks of precepted Neonatal clinical experience within a hospital-based facility providing NICU care.
  • Written and verbal communications, interpersonal skills.
  • Basic organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Current and valid Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license from the Respiratory Care Board of California (RCB)
  • Current and valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS),
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Current BLS certification.
