POSITION SUMMARY:

The Yoga MAT study will examine how yoga may help people with chronic pain who are in treatment for opioid use disorder.

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Research Coordinator for assigned research studies, the Research Assistant will perform research activities using approved protocols and techniques, conducts patient recruitment, administer questionnaires, gathers case samples, maintains patient databases, performs administrative tasks, assist in grant preparation, performs literature searches and participates with the research team in preparation of data and other reports. May also assist the principal investigator with interpreting experimental results and in preparing and writing manuscripts.

The Research Assistant will be required to be on-site to assist with project activities but has the potential of being hybrid.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

The Yoga MAT Study is funded by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) of the National Institutes of Health. The research study will look at how yoga may help people with chronic pain who are receiving buprenorphine/naloxone or methadone for the treatment of opioid use disorder. Specifically, the research is to learn how to help people with chronic pain attend video-based yoga classes and have a personal yoga practice.
  • Recruits subjects to participate in the study by using approved methodologies, such as, reaching out to healthcare providers for referrals, visiting clinics, sending mailouts, using approved advertisements, reviewing medical records, telephoning potential participants., etc.
  • Conducts the enrollment of study participants, including explaining research procedures, screening of participants for eligibility, and obtaining informed consent of participants.
  • Schedules appointments of study participants; conducts reminder phone calls and/or sends mailouts
  • Mail participant study materials.
  • Collects data through assessment interviews and enters data into REDCap
  • Reviews the data collection forms for each enrollee for completion and quality; checks work of junior staff performing data entry to ensure timely and accurate entry.
  • Obtains and distributes payment vouchers for participant reimbursements/participation.
  • Perform administrative duties associated with the study's Data Monitoring and Safety Board, tracking and reporting adverse events and collecting data specified by the DSMB. Responsible for all other administrative duties related to research activities.
  • Assist Investigators with manuscript and presentation preparation and research.
  • Participates in staff meetings/initiatives including appropriate quality improvement and education activities, or if unable to attend non-mandatory activities, accepts responsibility to review meeting minutes and becomes knowledgeable of issues discussed.
  • Performs office-related duties such as answering phones, picking up and delivering mail, storing and distributing office supplies, handling faxes, scanning, filing, photocopying, collating materials, maintaining the update of policy manuals, etc.
  • Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
  • Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the hospital's goals and mission.
  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree is required. Masters degree preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • None required.

EXPERIENCE:
  • 0-1 year experience required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Previous experience with recruiting subjects, with an understanding of the ethical and technical conduct of research preferred.
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) appropriate to the patient population served is a plus.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web browsers. Experience with statistical software a plus.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all personal/health-sensitive information.
  • Strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
