Position Focus:
This is a research assistant I position in the schizophrenia neuropharmacology research lab at Yale which works out of the Connecticut Mental Health Care Center, 34 Park Street , New Haven, CT and the West Haven VA Health Care System in West Haven, 900 Campbell Ave West Haven, CT. This position will be working out of both sites assisting the research lab in investigating the biological basis of cannabis dependence, schizophrenia, psychotic disorders and effectiveness of medications by conducting clinical, biological and treatment studies with individuals who meet study criteria. Ability to be professional, organized, have good critical thinking skills, good oral written and verbal skills to be able to collect clinical and neurobiological data through various research methods and procedures such as: computer, behavioral and cognitive assessments, and regulatory documents. Processes and summarizes data using scientific statistical techniques. Recruits study subjects and ensures protocol compliance, subject retention and appropriate follow up. Ensure that research project goals and objectives are met. May assist in designing, developing and modifying research experiments. Able to perform study screening, test and visit days as indicted by protocol and PI/ manager. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.
Essential Duties
1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments. 2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. 3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. 4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures. 5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.
Required Education and Experience
Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Ability to prioritize, to work efficiently and effectively. Excellent trouble shooting and multi-tasking ability. Ability to use good judgment. Preferred, research lab experience.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Ability to comprehend research protocols and procedures and apply research support as indicated.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Ability to collect and enter scientific data and assist research team with excellent computer skills, including and required: Word, Excel, Power Point.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Ability to receive constructive feedback, ability to work well with others and be part of a large work team. Flexibility to work at different work sites. Ability to be comfortable speaking to subjects, clinicians and staff in an effective and personable manner. Preferred experience working in a research environment and collecting clinical data.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Ability to maintain research equipment and space such as EEG, ECG, neuroscience booths, source documents, cognitive computers and tools
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Degree or experience in Psychology and/or Neuroscience. Demonstrated ability to objectively analyze an issue or problem, and critically appraise different aspects or solutions. Experience with Microsoft Teams. Direct contact with patients. Once employed all Yale University and protocol indicated trainings would need to be met.
