Mendocino Railway is a short line railroad that has three operations in California. Mendocino Railway operates the world-famous Skunk Train in Fort Bragg and Willits, the River Fox Train in West Sacramento and the Sunburst Train in Santa Paula.

Summary

The Sunburst Train will be an entertainment-style train that offers a variety of fun and festive excursions. Among the most unique of these excursions are the Santa Paula Railbikes! Our Railbikes are two-seater, motorized and peddle-powered vehicles that ride on the railroad tracks through scenic Ventura County landscapes.

These trips are guided by a trained crew with safety being the highest priority. Each fleet requires two guides, a leader and caboose, who deliver important safety orientation information, provide an operation demonstration, keep pace, assist riders, and load and unload bikes onto the track.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to Federal rules and regulations and subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.

Role and Responsibilities

• Assist guests with their bike rentals (including checking in via an online reservation system).
• Conduct a safety briefing prior to each departure.
• Conduct a daily written inspection on bikes and make minor repairs to bikes and running gear.
• Clean and sanitize bikes and gear prior to each use.
• Guide guests on bike rides (this means you will be peddling up and down the tracks multiple times per day).
• Turn bikes around for guests.
• Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

· A high-energy individual who enjoys working outside in a fast-paced environment. No prior experience needed.

· Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain, work outdoors in all weather conditions, lift up to ~70 pounds, and bent, kneel, and extend.

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

· Ability to clearly speak, read, and write in English required.

· Must have and maintain a valid driver license at time of application and throughout employment.

· Applicant must have a relatively clean motor vehicle record (MVR) in the past two (2) years. Applicants with less than two years of driving history will only be evaluated for the amount of time they have held a valid driver license. Also, no DUI, DWI, or reckless driving in the past 24 months.

Physical Requirements

• Multiple bike rides (recumbent style) per day.
• Occasional lifting of bikes and other heavy items.

Preferred Skills

• Bike repair skills
• Train/railroad experience

Additional Notes
Flexible scheduling with both weekday and weekend, daytime, or evening shifts available.
