Quality Systems Manager Job at Louis Dreyfus Company
This position is responsible for the management of all food safety and quality assurance/control activities including the administration of on-site analytical laboratory as well as maintaining all pertinent documentation related to the Quality System for LDC Claypool Site following all regional procedures. The manager will interact with customers ensuring timely delivery of technical & regulatory documentation; and providing answers to any technical & scientific questions maintaining the Commercial Team always informed. The Manager will direct all required certifications (BQ 9000, FSSC 22000, etc.) as well as all customers’ audits.
Main responsibilities
Directs the food safety and quality assurance/control programs and systems for the biodiesel, feed products, glycerin, lecithin, and packaging processing following all LDC corporate and regional policies and procedures.
Directs the activities for the analytical laboratory and 3rd party laboratories including optimization of efficiencies.
Develops a program for selection and approval of raw materials and packaging system working closely with procurement.
Works with the Legal department to keep regulatory registrations related to food safety updated and renewed (FDA Facility Registrations, Canadian Food & Feed) as well as ensuring compliance with the pertinent regulatory entities.
Maintains and manages all department’s KPI’s as customers’ complaints, customers’ requests (questionnaires, regulatory statements, technical information, certificates, etc.) in a timely manner.
Manages the design, approval process and execution of the facility trial protocols including costs analyses, and justification for the trial.
Develops and uses effective monitoring and controls for key processes and product quality - providing assurance of continued suitability and capability of processes.
Develops, oversees, and monitors the site quality plan/roadmap (Site Quality Manager is Accountable and responsible)
Monitors internal and external factors impacting the quality management system (i.e., emerging regulations, innovations that might impact the site’s quality systems).
Administers Site Quality Management System (QMS) governance through management reviews to ensure its continuing suitability and effectiveness.
Implements a quality risk management process to help monitor and control systems and to identify and prioritize areas for continual improvement of process performance and product quality throughout the product lifecycle.
Leads and oversees site quality training plan and establish an appropriate method to check for effectiveness.
Ensures GMP documentation is properly managed including documentation related to cleaning and sanitation programs for all areas of the site and ensuring that forms are completed including sanitation logs and chemical dilution forms
Interacts daily with the production team to mentor, maintain and continuously improve the food safety culture and food safety quality systems & ensure continuous monitoring of food safety critical control points.
Prepares and manages annual reviews of the Food Safety and Quality required SOP’s and ensures that internal general, surveillance and focused audits are carried out followed by the appropriate corrective and preventive actions including

Experience
Basic qualifications:
- 15 + years Food industry and Food Manufacturing experience
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in Quality Management System and Good Manufacturing Practices Food/Feed Safety Audits
- Vendor Management Systems Experience
- Knowledge of biofuels production (fuel ethanol via fermentation; biodiesel via transesterification)
- Experience in all technical, processing and scientific aspects of value-added food ingredients as well as in feeds
Preferred qualifications:
- Certified as a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) for Human Foods (FDA approved curriculum)
- Certified as a PCQA for Animal Foods (FDA approved curriculum)
- Certification in auditing for a GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) food safety scheme (FSSC 22000, SQF, BRC)
- Knowledge of BQ 9000 pre-requisites

Basic qualifications:
- Familiar with industry recognized Analytical Standards (ASTM, AOCS, AOAC, AACC, USP, NSF)

- Negotiation skills and ability to effectively influence others
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Primarily climate-controlled office environment. Periodic visits to industrial operations areas are necessary with exposure to variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions. Some stair climbing is required.
- Travel up to 15% to other sites.
- Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies.
Decision Making/Accountability
- Able to work unsupervised and make critical decisions on Food Safety and Quality Assurance & Control procedures and process that have direct implications to budgets and profitability, and food safety/quality of an agricultural processing plant.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment in multiple projects communicating with various levels of management to provide recommendations on Food Safety and Quality Assurance & Control results and process improvements.
Safety, Health & Environmental Responsibilities
- Active member of the facility SHE Program. Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies, rules, and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to. Ensures employees are provided required training for area assigned, and jobs and tasks prior to assigning work. Ensures unsafe working conditions are remedied as soon as practicable.
Academics
Minimum MSc degree in science field required – Chemistry and/or Food Science and/or Engineering
