Primary Function of Position:
This is a summer intern opportunity within the ISI RAQA Quality Data Analytics (QDA) team. The chosen candidate will be under close supervision and mentorship by the senior analyst in QDA team to get basic training as well as hands-on experiences in both Business Intelligence (BI) reporting and Data Science (DS) tracks. Based on qualification and competency of the chosen candidate, we will select proper project(s) for help intern student develop capabilities and skillsets throughout the data analytics pipeline such as database knowledges, data ETL, data aggregation and management, data visualization and advanced data analytics (if candidate student has qualified training/education in stats or other relevant quantitative science major).
Roles & Responsibilities:
- The roles and responsibilities will be determined based on the qualification and education level of selected student. However in general, we will offer opportunities for our intern student, under mentorship of our senior members, to be able to
- comfortably working on cloud/server computing environment
- writing SQL queries to extra information from databases, perform necessary data reformatting and aggregation
- generate or enhance dashboard reports by utilizing Tableau as BI reporting tool
If the chosen candidate has pre-training in statistics, information science or other related major with basic knowledge on statistical application AND is capable of writing advanced programing using R, R-Shiny or Python, we can offer advanced data analytics project to gain exposure and experiences in ML, AI, NLP, forecasting related project.
University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:
- University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.
- Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.
Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
- Current enrollment in a Statistics/Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Information Science, quantitative engineering or related] degree-seeking program at the Master’s, or Doctorate level
- Great passion and energy in applying quantitative method in application
- Programing skills using SQL is highly desired
- Advanced coding knowledge in R/Python is not required but certainly a big plus
- Knowledge and training in statistics is not required but certainly a big plus
- To encourage in-person training and effective communication, candidate from the local San Francisco Bay Area and/or remote student who is able to work in that area (at your own cost) during the intern training period is strongly preferred.
We provide market-competitive compensation packages for our internships and co-op roles, with a focus on fair pay and amazing work experiences. The pay rate for this position is $44 to $60 per hour. It may not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including relevant skills and experience for this particular internship, degree-seeking academic program (PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s, etc), year in school, and location.
