Physician Assistant Job at 4S
Ensure migrants, in short-term government custody, receive the appropriate scope of medical support in a front-line operational environment. There will be some travel to the Washington DC area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance for the operation of the EMS programs, including administering tactical medicine, individual first aid, naloxone, and Automated External Defibrillators (AED)
- Liaise with state and local medical programs to coordinate efforts, when necessary
- Authorize use of the most recent version of the Department of Homeland Security Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Austere Medicine protocols
- Provide on-line and off-line medical direction to the ensure appropriate and standard delivery of emergency medical services by EMT personnel
- On Line Medical Direction – Is provided through communication with an approved and trained Emergency Physician, and/or designee, typically via telephone, text message or other electronic communication means
- Off-Line Medical Direction –Involves the use of protocols with clearly defined Scopes of Practice for all Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Providers
- Clinical oversight of emergency care rendered by members of the EMP.
- Authorize the local use of the most recently updated version of the Department of Homeland Security ALS and BLS Protocols as well as the most recent version of the DHS Austere Protocols
- Provide medical supervision
- Appropriate quality improvement for daily operations and training pursuant to applicable local, state and Federal law, in collaboration with medical leadership
- Medical oversight by delegating authority for all aspects and standards of EMS medical practice
- This includes credentialing/authorizing of all Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMT), and Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic (EMT-P), and or state certified Emergency Medical Technicians of all levels, with in the USBP, Rio Grande Valley, Laredo and Del Rio Sectors
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years experience
- Physician Assistant degree from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation.
- Permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Must have relevant prior operational medicine experience, in a military, law enforcement, or humanitarian setting.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to sudden changes in schedules and work-related requirements.
- High degree of independence, initiative, and follow-through on a wide range of sensitive, complex, and program issues.
- Must be able to manage an extremely fast paced work environment with significant responsibility and short deadlines.

Physical Requirements:
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work, walking moderate to long distance may be required. Possible lifting up to 50 lbs.
