Position Overview

The Bottling Pharmacy Technician is responsible for general operational tasks to support the compounding process. The primary responsibilities are to support the bottling of compounded prescriptions and to assist in keeping the compounding rooms clean, organized and stocked. The Bottling Pharmacy Technician will assist in daily and monthly cleaning and disinfecting requirements. The Bottling Pharmacy Technician is supervised by the Managing Pharmacist.

Essential Functions

• Performs duties in compliance with Skin Specialty Solutions, Inc. standard operating procedures and best practices, under the direct supervision of the Managing Pharmacist, Non-Sterile Compounding.
• Assists in inventory control and management by calculating daily supply needs per daily compounding schedule.
• Creates and/or prints drug labels, subject to pharmacist supervision and checking, in compliance with Missouri Board of Pharmacy law.
• Calibrates equipment prior to use.
• Fills compounded cream product into bottles, then tightens pump and caps finished bottles and places into correct designated bins.
• Disposes of lab waste in accordance with pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.
• Labels prescription containers under the direct supervision of the Managing Pharmacist, Non-Sterile Compounding.
• Assists in cleaning and disinfecting the entire compounding room including countertop surfaces, floors, biosafety cabinets, used equipment and accessories, shelves, walls, ceilings, etc in accordance with SOPs.
• Complies with all applicable federal and state pharmacy laws, including but not limited to: USP 800, USP 795, and Missouri Board of Pharmacy requirements.
• Keeps the laboratory environment clean, organized and stocked.
• Fills in logs and reports, accurately and completely.
• Receives incoming drug and supply shipments.

Work Requirements

• The Bottling Pharmacy Technician, Non-Sterile Compounding must be able to work in an industrial environment, standing and walking around as much as 60% of the day.
• Must be able to safely and effectively wear Personal Protective Equipment, including a respirator for a full day, as necessary.
• Limited exposure to potentially hazardous substances.
• May need to lift as much as 40 lbs.
• Must be able to pass drug test and background check, prior to hire, as well as any subsequent random drug tests.

Qualifications and Skills

Minimum Requirements

• Previous Pharmacy Technician experience not required. On the job training will be provided.
• Must be eligible to obtain a Pharmacy Technician License within 45 days of hire (If you don’t have one currently, we can help facilitate you acquiring one upon hire).
• High school diploma, or equivalent.
• Strong sense of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality of protected health information.
• Ability to work weekends, if necessary.

Preferred Requirements

• Pharmacy Technician Certification, a plus.
• Experience in a mail-order pharmacy preferred, but not required
• Experience in a compounding pharmacy preferred, but not required.
• Work experience in topical medication compounding.
• Experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, but not required.
