The Role

The Business Development Partner, Games, will work directly with a16z Games ecosystem as a go-to-market subject matter expert to help our founders drive toward their ambitious growth goals. You should have empathy for the unique challenges games founders face and a comprehensive understanding of the games ecosystem, and be able to synthesize this understanding into programs to support our portfolio across every lifecycle stage.

This individual will sit within the Games Fund, reporting to the GTM Partner, and will work in close concert with the games General Partners and other cross functional teams supporting our games portfolio.

To our team, you should be excited to:

• Leverage your industry expertise to advise the a16z games portfolio on GTM strategies including partnership plans, global publishing / distribution, deal structures, and key procurement decisions
• Quickly grasp important (or emerging) concepts in game, product, or community development; synthesize your understanding into a granular, prioritized view of key market players
• Initiate and grow a low latency network of executive and functional leaders across the games ecosystem to support our portfolio and build the Games Fund brand
• Identify and broker strategic growth opportunities for our portfolio companies
• Develop workshops, content, and scalable programs to support portfolio companies' growth
• Share relevant insights with a16z investing and editorial teams to support market receptivity and our evolving investment thesis
• Collaborate across a16z's operating platform, including Creator, Marketing, Growth, and HR functions, to deliver integrated solutions and a cohesive experience for our portfolio
• Advocate for your positions and execute w/extreme ownership; given that this is a new position, your success is bound only by your understanding of the opportunity and drive to execute against it.

Minimum Qualifications

• 4-6+ years of total experience
• 2+ years in a partner facing role in the games industry (BD, Partnerships, Developer Relations, Publishing), preferably at a high-growth company or start-up
• Direct experience supporting game development, either in technical/production phases or go-to-market/community motions.
• Outstanding analytical and quantitative skills
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to quickly build rapport and trust from others, and to build hiqh quality relationships from scratch
• Intellectual dexterity
• Proven track record to successfully self manage and prioritize in a dynamic environment
• Collaborative attitude with a team-first approach

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $244,000-$284,500, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
