The Mental Health Awareness Training (MHAT) Coordinator is responsible for bringing awareness to mental health and substance use challenges by promoting, coordinating, and conducting Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to individuals in the West Texas Centers service area. The MHAT Coordinator is responsible for successful completion of Adult, Youth and Teen MHFA trainer courses and maintaining MHFA certifications. The MHAT Coordinator will work closely with the MHFA Coordinator for expanding the current MHFA program within West Texas Centers. This coordination will include constant communication, tracking of classes, outreach, trainer certifications, etc. The MHAT Coordinator will develop a marketing, outreach, and training plan to reach local school districts, higher education, law enforcement, emergency services personnel, veterans, armed services members and their families, teenage youth (15 to 18) and their families, as well as any other identified community agency or organization. Salary: $24.94
MHAT coordinator must consistently demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse population of individuals. MHAT coordinator must consistently reflect a positive image which supports the positive image of West Texas Centers. The MHAT Coordinator must demonstrate the ability to plan, execute, and evaluate the service MHFA plan. MHAT Coordinator must execute all duties in compliance with HHSC, WTC, and Federal Block grant guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a social, behavior, or human service field. Academic certification may be substituted for successful work experiences. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License.
ESSENTIAL TASKS AND PURPOSES:- Develops annual service plan for bringing awareness to Mental Health First Aid training to individuals in the communities served by West Texas Centers.
- Identify and record the historical record of MHFA trainings provided by WTC.
- Review and demonstrate competency relative to the Texas Health and Human Services standards and objectives relative to MHFA.
- Submit a list of outreach contacts in each of the communities served by WTC.
- Ensure there is a constant operational link to MHFA information on the main WTC web site.
- Develop an annual plan to provide MHFA training to individuals in each of the counties served by WTC for submission to the WTC Training Manager.
- Provide quarterly progress report on the execution of the approved MHFA plan.
- Conduct community outreach to plan and provide MHFA trainings
- Meet with community groups for which MHFA would be a valuable training, as a minimum those identified in the WTC MHFA plan.
- Find community in-kind support for venues for MHFA Classes
- Promote each class to achieve a minimum of 10 participants.
- Ensure adequate materials for training are available at each class.
- Schedule each WTC qualified MHFA trainer a minimum of 3 classes per year in each of their areas of MHFA certification.
- Maintain a calendar of MHFA courses offered and ensure the planned courses are reported to HHSC by the 151h of each month and ensure classes are posted on the National Council for Behavioral Health web site at least 30 days prior to each class.
- Submit all documentation of MHFA trainings within 20 days of course completion to the MHFA Accrediting body and to the appropriate reporting site. As appropriate designate public-school employees as "Texas School Initiative"
- Interfaces with regional Education Centers, Law Enforcement Centers, Emergency Personnel Agencies and other community partners on MHFA Training Opportunities.
- Coordinate with MHFA Coordinator to meet with local leaders of each Education Service Center, Law Enforcement Agency, Emergency Personnel Agency and other identified agencies on a routine basis.
- Coordinate with each agency for training personnel and community members.
- Interface with local school districts and higher education to promote MHFA trainings.
- Complete a contract list and create a plan to contact each school district to include the high schools, middle schools and elementary annually to promote MHFA.
- Complete a contact list and create a plan to contact higher education campuses in WTC service area to promote MHFA training annually.
- Promote adult, youth, and Teen MHFA.
- Evaluate effectiveness and develop improvement plans for each MHFA training
- Review participant feedback for each MHFA class and track trends for improvement
- Review the performance of each WTC MHFA trainer following each MHFA class to offer coaching for continued excellence.
- Coordinate quarterly distribution of follow-up survey to all MHFA participants to comply with HHSC standards.
- Develop an annual budget and monitor expenses related to providing MHFA trainings
- Provides an annual budget estimating the expenses necessary to complete the MHFA training plan.
- Provides necessary reports on MHFA expenses.
- Participates in the Medicaid Administrative Claiming (MAC) time study program. RMTS as assigned
- Completes all RMTS Time Studies within timeframes. No documented failure to complete logs on time.

Staff will establish and maintain effective work relationships with individuals served and their families, supervisors, co-workers, and visitors by demonstrating cooperative, courteous, and respectful behavior. Staff will adhere to rules outlined in Confidentiality Statement signed by employee and follow Information Services policy/ procedure guidelines related to security and accountability as a user of WTC network and software application technology.
All team members will promote and ensures safety guidelines are followed for the work environment by maintaining clean, neat, organized and safe work areas. This includes but is not limited to the following:
- Safety concerns are reported to supervisor immediately upon discovery and/or corrected.
- Identifies and reports any unsafe factors in the environment.
- Reports and/or corrects safety hazards in the work area.
- Utilizes universal precautions when handling all blood and body fluids.
- Adheres to all standards, policies and procedures of infection control.
- Universal precautions are utilized in accordance to WTC policy and procedures.
Team Members must have and maintain a driving record that is acceptable for insurability through the Center's insurance carrier. Staff must maintain a safe, inspected and road-worthy vehicle and have a valid Texas Driver's License. Staff must notify supervisor immediately of any driving violations or citations received from law enforcement with no evidence of failure to report. Must meet the criteria that indicate a commitment to safe and responsible driving as defined by the Texas Risk Management Fund.
