LPN Medication Nurse

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The LPN Medication Nurse will be responsible for administering medications to the residents and support two charge nurses in a 40 bed skilled nursing facility. This is a full-time, benefits eligible Baylor status position, Fridays 12p-8p and Saturdays & Sundays 7a-3p with a sign-on bonus of $5,000.

Located along Scarborough’s coast, Piper Shores is a Premier Retirement Community which includes Independent Living, Assisting Living, and Nursing Home Programs. Our Nursing Home unit is comprised of 40 beds with clinical and registered nursing care, and we practice a Person First approach to care.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

· Safely prepares, administers, and charts oral, topical, injections and suppository drugs.

· Checks and prepares each dose immediately preceding administration.

· Follows administration protocol

· Considers the general use of the medication, therapeutic action, usual dosage, precautions and contradictions and other considerations following when administering a medication

· Records administration of the medication on resident’s in electronic medication administration record.

· Reports medication errors or reactions to medications immediately to the charge nurse, who, in turn, reports to the resident’s attending physician and DON and completes the necessary documentation.

· Serves as part of a team of skilled professionals to ensure the comfort, safety and wellbeing of residents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Positive approach to team-work with a person-centered approach to care.

· Current Maine LPN license

· Long-Term Care experience preferred.

· Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic. Ability to document care given.
