The expected hiring range for this position is $41,730.00 and $49,400.00 annually.

The Lee County Library System, a dynamic, forward-thinking organization, is searching for enthusiastic, community-minded candidates to become a part of the high-performing team at the Northwest Regional Library. As a Youth Services/ Young Adult Librarian, you will plan and implement programs in the library and at outreach locations for young adults, children, and families. The successful candidate will be an imaginative, team-oriented, customer service-driven self-starter able to relate positively to a diverse population and excel at organizing teen activities and presenting top-notch story time programs for children.

This position is located between Mariner Middle School and Mariner High School. The Northwest Regional Library is located in the active community of northwest Cape Coral. Cape Coral offers easy access to historic downtown Fort Myers and Punta Gorda as well as quaint fishing villages on Pine Island. The city of Cape Coral provides myriad attractions for families including newly created parks, playgrounds, and nature centers. The city boasts a vibrant nightlife with a community atmosphere. Nestled between two schools and adorned with native foliage, the Northwest Regional Library serves one of the fastest-growing areas of Lee County. The library is a popular afterschool spot for teens and provides innovative programming for all ages. Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide stellar customer service by assisting patrons of all ages using Library resources and services, including computers, electronic resources, reference, and readers’ advisory.
• Maintain a regular schedule of collection maintenance and promotion of the children's and teen's collections through weeding, selection, and displays.
• Demonstrate proficiency in readers’ advisory to children and teens.
• May be assigned to participate in branch-specific and system-wide committees.
• Present tours and programs for school and community groups visiting the library.
• Provide technology training to staff and patrons.
• May be in charge of the library for specific days or shifts.
• Explain and administer library policies and procedures.
• Actively seek and participate in professional development opportunities and stay abreast of emerging technology and trends.
• Communicate and work collaboratively with co-workers, sharing information and working cohesively as a team.
• Initiate, plan, and conduct a variety of programs and activities to encourage positive use of the library by teens, including but not limited to maker-based programming, crafts, gaming, Teen Advisory Group, special events, and school and community outreach.
• Plan and present programs and activities for children and teens at the library and at outreach locations.
• Plan and present youth literacy programs such as Baby Rhyme Time, Toddler Tales, Family Story Time, and Preschool Story Time.
• Develop and maintain communication and contacts with nearby schools and community organizations that serve children and teens.
• Routinely facilitate afterschool activities and engagement in the teen zone.
• Offers support to the Adult Reference Department and other service desks as needed.

Education, Experience, Licensing

Required Qualifications:

• Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science, or a closely related field from a graduate library school program accredited by the American Library Association or the ability to obtain this degree within 6 months of hire.
• One year of experience in professional library work or any equivalent combination of relevant training or experience.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• One year of related library experience.
• Experience with planning and presenting programs to children and teens.

• Ability to operate a variety of equipment such as cash registers, computers, photocopiers, self-check machines, assistive devices, and automation equipment.
• Ability to relate positively to a diverse population, including children, teens, and speakers of languages other than English.

Additional Information:

• The County may require employees to make either a temporary, or long-term, permanent transfer to another library location to accommodate the organization's business needs.
• This position requires 80 Hours Bi-Weekly; hours and days will vary to include evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES: All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an Emergency as needed. During an Emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
