Legal Technical Writer Position Description

Main duties will be to update and maintain the organization’s civil rights investigative manual. The updated investigative manual, the primary focus for this position, will assist attorneys in the stages of their legal analysis, and identify appropriate statutory and regulatory authorities. The position must have experience writing guidance that includes explanations of legal terms, standards and processes. The ideal candidate will have experience writing using the structure and syntax of legal writing including general familiarity with Blue Book citations. Must quickly gain an understanding of program requirements, and the capability to interpret, integrate, and disseminate large volumes of information in clear and concise manner.

Skills / Experience

• Manage the revision and update of the organization’s investigative manual.
• Research and gather information regarding changes in the caselaw and regulations related to the civil rights statutes the organization enforces;
• Consult relevant information sources, including library resources, technical and financial documents, and client and project personnel, to obtain background information, and verify pertinent guidelines and regulations governing the project’s deliverables
• Develop outlines and drafts incorporating the relevant updates for review and approval by leadership
• Complete the investigative manual update and provide to program manager for review; and
• Incorporate edits and feedback from leadership in order to produce a final deliverable.

Minimum Requirements

• An associate degree or technical certificate; and
• Two years of relevant work experience.
