General Summary:

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Students/Title IX Coordinator for Students, the Investigator for Student Concerns will serve as the investigator for Title IX and other relevant cases and will conduct interviews with the impacted party, respondent and relevant witness, ensuring a well-documented investigative process. The Investigator for Student Concerns will coordinate with campus offices and partners, including but not limited to the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX (OCRTIX), Office of Human Resources (HR), University Health Services (UHS) and the Department of Public Safety (DPS).

This position may be assigned formal on-call duties in accordance with Article 18.3 of the contract between the University and the Professional Staff Union. Assignment of on-call will be detailed using the “On-Call Assignment (Professional Staff) Form.”

Examples of Duties:

  • Receive and process, in a timely manner, complaints of alleged discrimination and/or sexual harassment/sexual assault;
  • Conduct prompt, equitable, and impartial investigations of alleged discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct and issue findings of fact and recommendations for disposition of complaints;
  • In consultation with the Associate Dean of Students, the Title IX Coordinator, and other campus constituents, plan and provide educational programs, training, and development opportunities to members of the University community in the areas of non-discrimination, sexual harassment, and Title IX;
  • Prepare and disseminate educational materials, including brochures, posters, and web-based materials that inform members of the campus community of Title IX rights and responsibilities;
  • Provide consultation and information regarding Title IX and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) requirements to all involved parties;
  • Preparation of Title IX reports, position statements and other investigatory reports as applicable;
  • May serve on committees and attend meetings as required;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Master’s Degree, JD preferred, and a minimum of three to five (3-5) years of relevant experience in the area of investigations, student conduct, or equal employment opportunity/human resources experience in a higher education institution or a large complex organization is required. Knowledge of and/or experience with Title IX, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and other applicable laws and regulations required. Experience such in conducting investigations alleging discrimination based on sex, including sexual harassment, sexual assault and sexual violence and/or law enforcement investigator experience is strongly preferred. Experience working in higher education is strongly preferred. Some travel may be required. The incumbent may be required to work occasional evenings and/or weekends, as required.

  • Knowledge, experience, and training in handling issues related to gender-based violence;
  • Knowledge of best practices as they relate to institutions of higher education compliance with Title IX and VAWA;
  • Working knowledge of relevant regulatory statues and guidelines, laws, current legal decisions, and directives regarding equal education opportunity;
  • Ability to manage multiple, on-going and complex caseload of Title IX-related and other relevant incidents and complaints;
  • Ability to guide, advise and support the training and learning process with respect to Title IX and VAWA compliance;
  • Ability to build relationships and establish collaborative partnerships across the institution;
  • Ability to exercise discretion in handling highly confidential information and work with confidential and time sensitive materials;
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and exercise sound judgment;
  • Ability to promote a culture of safety, demonstrate commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety, communicate safety concerns and use and promote safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned;
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues and be thoughtful of multicultural environment;
