BWC is currently operating under a hybrid schedule that can incorporate both teleworking and in-office hours. Employees may be required to report to the office when requested by management &/or for their initial job training.
BWC is currently looking for three (3) WC Underwriters for our Underwriting Department.
What You'll Be Doing:
Corresponds with the employer to verify information to complete the combination & transfer of experience.
Responds (verbally &/or in writing) to inquiries from employers, legislators, trade associations, other state agencies, BWC personnel, or employer representatives.
Utilizes personal computer to access workers’ compensation insurance systems (core suite), rates & payments & other data bases as needed.
Reviews groupings of employers with same or similar exposure based on rules governed by the national council of compensation insurance (NCCI).
Represents BWC in Adjudication process.
Assists in special projects & participates in cross-functional BWC teams to address customer issues.

Required Experience and/or Education:
Completion of undergraduate core coursework in business, insurance & risk management, accounting, mathematical sciences or related field of study.
Or 2 years training or 2 years experience as underwriter for insurance organization or for agency comparable to Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation.
Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
Necessary Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of workers’ compensation (WC) laws, policies & procedures regarding Self –Insurance (SI)*; insurance & risk management; accounting; business administration; loss control; manual classifications; English grammar; oral and written business communication; public relations; human relations.
Skill in using personal computer; good verbal & writing skills.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; read & record figures accurately; comprehend & record figures accurately; add, subtract, multiply & divide whole numbers; calculate fractions, decimals & percentages; complete routine forms; maintain accurate records; understand manuals & verbal instructions, technical in nature; prepare meaningful, concise & accurate reports; gather collate & classify information about data, people or things; work alone on most tasks; handle sensitive inquiries from & contacts with officials & general public.

BWC OCSEA Selection Rights
This position shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of the OCSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. BWC bargaining unit members have selection rights before non-bargaining unit members. All other applications will only be considered if an internal bargaining unit applicant is not selected for this position.
Salary Information
Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary is set at lowest rate of the salary range. In most cases successful employees will move up a step in the salary range within six months, with subsequent step increases occurring every year as supported by successful performance evaluation results.

Transportation:
Position may require travel; therefore, persons occupying this position must be able to provide own transportation &/or legally operate a state-owned vehicle.
